India blocks PUBG Mobile, Alipay, Baidu, and more Chinese applications

India is banning another 118 apps said to be either based in or linked to China. PUBG Web, Alipay, and Baidu are among the top names on the list. India blocked TikTok, WeChat, and more than 50 other China-based applications in June, indicating that they were a security issue.

The country's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology stated that it had received complaints about stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user data to servers located outside India. The Ministry 's announcement does not specifically mention China. It clearly notes that the move would safeguard the needs of Indian smartphone and internet consumers."

News reports say that bans could be more linked to rising tensions between India and China over the current border conflict.

India has now banned a variety of widely successful applications, cutting them off from one of the biggest markets for cell phone users. PUBG Gaming, created by the vast Chinese tech giant Tencent, is considered to be one of the country's biggest gamers. India was also suspected to be one of the major markets for TikTok, which has been banned since June. The latest ban list also contains two programs that are intended to have VPN access exclusively for the use of TikTok.
