In the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the digital economy was further highlighted:

(Xinhua) Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang stressed on Friday that the pandemic on COVID-19 was essential for the digital economy in restoring economic and social growth, creating more jobs and improving human well-being.
 
Li address the opening ceremony of the 2020 China-ASEAN Year of Digital Economic Cooperation (DEC) in a message of congratulations.
 
Li said China and ASEAN are friendly neighbors and key partners in his message. The ASEAN Association and China were very friendly partners. The exponential growth of the digital economy today changes the environments of world economy and human society profoundly.
 
Li said the COVID-19 pandemic further emphasized the importance of digital economy for restoring economic and social growth, creating more jobs and improving the well-being of the people, noting that 2020, as the China-ASEAN Year of the DEC, was designated 2020.
 
Li expressed the hope that China and ASEAN could take the Chinese-ASEAN DEC year as an opportunity and use the new technological and industrial revolution to make good use of it.
 
He added that both sides would tap into additional advantages, concentrate on win-win cooperativity and cultivate new points for cooperation in industrial areas, such as smart city, artificial intelligence and big data, in order to create stronger engines for economic and social growth and to inject new energies to achieve lasting stability and prosperity.
 
A congratulatory letter was sent to the opening ceremony by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who chaired the rotating Presidency of ASEAN.
