In Italy, flying cars will soon land in this giant baobab tree

The future has already been written: between the delivery drones currently being tested, the flying taxis that France will test and the 2.0 helicopters that will replace ambulances and firefighters , the future of mobility is in the sky. But it's not all about stealing; all these machines at our service, where will they land?

The Italian designers at Giancarlo Zema have looked into the question. Well, rather, they looked up. And not just a little: their proposal is this immense 30-meter tower shaped like a baobab, the top of which serves as a landing strip and the trunk of a waiting room for passengers.

Eco-responsible mobility . Made of glued laminated wood, the structure is doubled by a foundation and a steel core. The track is covered with photovoltaic panels which, according to the architect, can generate around 300 kW each day. This is good because the three tracks of this heliport will also serve as contactless charging stations for the robot taxis of tomorrow. The rounded "head" will house a large lounge (200 m²) where you can have lunch or have a coffee while waiting for your flight.

The “Eco-Vertiport”, as the Italians called it, was an order from the Chinese manufacturer Ehang , whose flying car made its first flight at the end of 2020 . According to their announcement, a first baobab of this kind will be well built soon, in Italy. Where and when ? Probably not before our neighbors authorized the theft of these new vehicles and settled this legal trouble. In this sector, the landing is only the baobab tree that hides the forest from future legislation.
