In England, these bus stops become gardens for bees

A world without bees? Impossible. However, the decline of these pollinating insects, essential to our ecosystem (in particular they allow many species of wild plants, trees and fruits to develop), is real.

To attract bees to the city center, and precisely to fight against this decline, Leicester decided to transform its bus shelters into gardens for bees, made up of various plants (lavender, sedum, wild flowers, etc.) so that they can come and pollinate in peace, a process that ensures fertilization and the production of seeds and fruits. These plant shelters should also attract other pollinating insects, such as butterflies, flies and hummingbirds.

For now, the city has planned to transform 30 bus shelters before the end of the summer. By 2022, the 479 infrastructures Leicester owns should have a roof garden. Nicknamed “  Bee Bus Stops  ”, these bus shelters will also be equipped with solar panels and will therefore run on green energy in the future. These developments, carried out by the company Clear Channel , are part of a global program to make Leicester a carbon neutral city by 2030.

Leicester is not the first city in the world to transform its stops in favor of biodiversity. In the Netherlands, several municipalities such as Utrecht have already made this ecological transition. In any case, the Dutch are always one step ahead when it comes to protecting the planet.
