In Denmark, old wind turbines are transformed into bicycle garages

Much wind for nothing? In France, there are nearly 1,500 anti-wind associations; but in Denmark, these mills provide 40% of the energy mix and the government wants to cross the 70% mark by 2030. No secret to get there, the northern kingdom began its energy transition a long time ago and continued from year to year. With one flaw: some of the oldest infrastructures were reaching the end of their life in 2019 and had to be dismantled.

Anticipating things, Denmark has entrusted the upgrading of wind turbines to various companies. One of them, the Re-Wind project, worked on a way of reusing blades in molded composite materials in real estate and street furniture (bench, bus shelters). Thus in 2020, they presented bicycle garages made from recycled wind turbines.

Installed since in the port of Aalborg, in the North of the country, the blades make it possible to shelter the vehicles of the velotafeurs. In Denmark, the bicycle represents almost 20% of trips and some 700,000 bicycles circulate in its capital, Copenhagen. This is 5 times more than the number of cars.

Equipping cities with this type of garage is a strong sign sent to motorists that costs communities little because it is recovery, while reducing landfills. This success has prompted Re-Wind to now offer bridges and gangways built with upgraded blades. Dare to say that you don't feel like pedaling on a wind turbine?
