Huawei focuses on cloud business that still has connections to US chips

Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies Co Ltd is relying on its burgeoning cloud market, which still has access to U.S. chips despite restrictions against the firm, to ensure its longevity, according to the Financial Times.

Huawei's cloud computing sector provides computational resources and storage to businesses, including supplying them with access to artificial intelligence, and is growing rapidly, the newspaper published on Sunday, citing sources.

In January, Huawei placed the unit on an equal footing with its smartphone and telecommunications equipment company, FT announced.

The unit has stepped up its services and Beijing will eventually fund the company through public cloud contracts, according to the report.

U.S. Government. President Donald Trump has limited the export of technologies to Chinese businesses, in particular Huawei, citing national security threats.
