Government considers a PUBG ban in India: what we know so far
The government can soon ban the PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) in India. Comments indicating a ban on 275 applications started to appear online a month after the Indian government banned 59 Chinese applications, including common apps like TikTok, UC Browser, citing data protection concerns.
On Monday, the government censored 47 more Chinese apps that were clones of previously censored apps. Some of them include TikTok Lite, Helo Lite, ShareIt Lite, Bigo Lite and VFY Lite, all of which are currently unavailable on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. While PUBG is not part of the chart, it is said to be under the microscope.
PUBG is one of the most popular mobile smartphone games in India and many other countries. For India alone, the app has more than 175 million downloads.
PUBG was developed by a South Korean computer game corporation named Bluehole. Nevertheless, Tencent, a Chinese multinational company, owns a substantial share of the famous title.
The government is considering a ban on the royal style war over data protection issues. Many programs have lately been on the spotlight due to suspected data-sharing activities with the Chinese Government.
PUBG has been exposed to strong scrutiny many times in the past, albeit for a particular cause. After receiving a range of complaints from parents and guardians, several state governments across the nation placed a temporary ban on the gaming app for its addictive nature, which had a psychological effect on players, particularly youngsters.
PUBG then promised that it would take input from parents , educators and government agencies to create a stable environment that would improve the gaming experience.
India's neighboring country, Pakistan, also outlawed PUBG earlier this month on the grounds of the addictive aspect of the game that is harmful to the safety of the player.
Later , on July 26, the Pakistani court lifted the injunction.
