Google is now finding it possible to locate black-owned businesses

Google is introducing a new platform that helps companies to mark themselves as Black-owned through the Maps and Search listings of the app. The latest functionality is part of the company 's commitment last month to help the Black community with "initiatives and product innovations that promote long-term approaches."

When looking for a company from Google.com or Google Maps, you will now be able to see a new logo reflecting Black-owned businesses — a black heart against an orange three-striped backdrop, like the one you will see in these photos.

We need to assert their company on Google and check whether they own it via letter, phone or email before they can qualify for a badge; it's not clear whether or whether Google can really say that they are Black-owned. In 2018 , Google launched similar badges for businesses to indicate that they were "Women-Led" and/or welcoming to LGBTQ+ community members.

In the past two months, Google has said it has seen "a surge in internet searching for Black-owned companies" because customers are looking to spend money on these companies to demonstrate interest in the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Another of Google's biggest rivals, Yelp, which has recently launched its own Black-owned brand, has seen a similar spike in searches for the same form of service. Yelp reported in its Q2 earnings report that there were more than 2.5 million Black-owned company inquiries between May 25 and July 10.
