Google discontinues its two major devices: the Pixel 3A and 3A XL

Google has discontinued its mid-range smartphones Pixel 3A and 3A XL, the firm reported today (via Android Police). Google Store has sold Pixel 3A via its inventory and completed its sales, Google told The Verge in a tweet. "The software is available from certain distributors for people who are still interested in purchasing Pixel 3A, while the supplies last."

It may be surprising to hear people are on the lookout for a Google-made phone that is more affordable. My colleague Dieter Bohn discovered the 3A had an excellent camera in his review last year, particularly for its low price.

Even the 3A is listed on the Google Store as out of stock. However, as of this writing, stock of both the 3A and 3A XL is available on Amazon, if you do want to pick one up.

With the Pixel 3A discontinued, Google's only phone selling on its own store is its flagship Pixel 4, released last October. Yet a mid-range alternative to the Pixel 4, potentially named the Pixel 4A, may be coming early, and after months of speculation and leaks we might already know a lot about that.

Apparently, the rumored Pixel 4A has a 5.81-inch display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080, a Snapdragon 730 processor, a 12.2-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone and a headphone jack. And, thanks to a hands-on posted on YouTube in March and pictures of what appears to be a retail Pixel 4A package hitting the web in April, we might know what it looks like.
