Google has confirmed that starting next week; users of Barnes and Noble's android app will not be able to buy digital books in app, and it appears to be due to a Google Play Policy deadline and that's been more than a year and half in the works. And it is not just Barn and noble that seems to have been affected, the customer will also not be able to buy amazons' audible titles with a debit card or credit card in the latest versions of its Android app, either.

These changes seem to have arisen from Google's insistence that apps could only use Google's play billing systems.
