Google Travel adds new information on travel planning related to the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has overturned the travel industry, but Google is trying to help by adding new tools to its travel tools that flag pandemic information for users, such as local COVID-19 cases, and whether the hotel offers free cancellations.

New additions include "travel trends" showing the percentage of hotel availability and flights operating in that area (using data from previous Google hotels and flight bookings). These trends are in line with existing alerts as to whether there is currently a travel advisory for your destination in Google Search.

This information will also appear if you are using Google Travel when searching for a hotel, flight or vacation rental. Google Travel also has an additional feature that shows whether your vacation reservation offers free refunds — with an additional option to filter your searches exclusively according to that criterion.
