Google Maps testing of traffic lights in the US

In a new test, the traffic light in the cities around the USA is displayed in the Google Maps Android application. The feature was initially spotted by Droid Life, and has since been confirmed by Google. "To help people stay more informed on the road, we 're testing a Google Maps feature on Android that shows the location of traffic lights in selected cities across the U.S.," the company said to The Verge.

Google Maps is not the first mapping app to start showing traffic light locations in the US after Apple Maps added them to iOS 13 last year, according to Droid Life. Even Apple's Siri Voice Assistant integrates them in its directions.

Rather than calling you to turn left after a certain number of feet, Siri can say "turn left at next light," to make it more natural and easy to understand the instructions of the voice assistant. Droid Life says that Google Maps, however, still doesn't seem to use the traffic lights for its guidance.

This is not the first time Google Maps have shown traffic lights, but it is an important expansion for the feature (this has been available in Japan for some years now). In American cities like New York , San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Google tests this feature and says it will expand over time.
