Google has made good on its pledge in August to add Google Maps back to the Apple Watch after yanking it out in 2017. It is now available, and as we wrote last month, its notable features include the availability of path forecasts and step-by - step instructions to and from pre-saved locations on your wrist. Google Maps became available for Apple Watch for the first time in 2015, but it hasn't been available to download since 2017, when Google pulled the app without explaining why.
As 9to5Google reports, this latest update doesn't help you check for a new location directly from the Phone.
For random trips to locations that are not saved on your Wrist, you may need to use your phone to start the operation, and then you can begin browsing the Apple Watch. But it's only a pretty simple experience, so it's great to have people who don't want to be trapped with Apple Charts.
In order to update the new app on the Apple Watch, we first had to upgrade the Google Maps app to the current version 5.52 on the iPhone. Here's the distribution page for the Apple App Store. WatchOS includes watchOS 5 or older, which excludes the original Apple Watch.
