Only 10 models. Already in 2019, we were talking about the arrival of flying car races . This idea, far-fetched on paper, will soon see the light of day, his departure having been delayed by the health crisis. As in other motorsports, for example Formula 1, drivers will compete on different circuits across the planet. Except that it is in the air that everything is played out. Initially, the machines will be remotely guided from the ground by experts.
By 2022 or 2023, the organizers hope to put pilots behind the wheel of these flying cars. The peculiarity, unlike other disciplines, is that all the teams will participate in the races with the same car: the Mk3 , built by the Australian company Alauda Racing . As there will be ten teams at the start of the races, Alauda Racing plans to build ten Mk3s.
The Formula 1 of the airs. For the moment, Alauda Racing has not revealed all the characteristics of its machine. The furious-looking car, which is part of the vertical take-off and landing electric vehicles (eVOLT), will be able to reach 100 km / h in precisely 2.8 seconds. Its maximum speed would be 120 km / h. As in Formula 1, cars will be able to make pit stops to change the battery (instead of the tires). According to the Airspeeder organizers, a stop should last 14 seconds. Flying vehicles will also be equipped with radars and cameras to avoid shocks and would be able to take hairpin turns.
To see the cars at work, we will have to wait a little longer: Airspeeder has not yet unveiled the calendar for this first season. The first races will make it possible to discover a new discipline, but also to judge the feasibility of having a pilot in charge from next year. Capable of supporting 80 kilos, the Mk3 were designed to accommodate a driver. But for the moment, this is not yet relevant.
