Finally, Snapchat lets all iOS users put music in their snaps.

Snap is making strong use of his word to introduce music to Snapchat and gear up to contend even more with TikTok and Instagram. The company revealed today that iOS users around the world would be able to use popular music in their snapshots. It had already introduced the feature to people in New Zealand and Australia, and in August it was said to bring music to more regions this fall. Snap does not specify when the sounds would be available on Android devices.

The company also says today that it will test to encourage users to produce their own sounds, and that feature will roll out globally in the coming months. Snap still doesn't have a feed like TikTok that pushes viral music content, like dances or memes, to users and instead focuses on its partnerships with big publishers and tighter social networks between users.

If a person receives a snap with sounds, they will skip to see the cover art, the song title, and the artist's name.

You can also tap the "Play This Song" link to listen to the full song on other streaming platforms, including Spotify , Apple Music, and SoundCloud.

Snap doesn't say how large its music library is but calls it "robust and organized." It also notes that its licensing agreements include songs by Warner Music Company, Universal Music Publishing Company, Warner Chappell Music, BMG Music Publishing, and others.

Overall, Snap is late in adding music to its website. Instagram launched Stories' music stickers in 2019 and carried out its direct TikTok rival, Reels, in August. Meanwhile, TikTok continued to gain popularity among Snap's loyal teen base and young adult users, meaning that Snap could lose its edge if these users stuck to TikTok instead of checking or uploading to Snapchat. Snap wanted at least to add music to its website so that it could keep touch with its rivals and remain competitive even though only iOS users had access to it at first.
