Facebook's Portal TV system is finally getting the Netflix app

Facebook's Portal TV, a screenless camera system that you plug into a large screen, is getting Netflix. The company revealed today the update, rounding out what streaming apps are available via its family of video chat devices and making the Portal platform even more of a streaming stick competitor. (Portal TV also supports Amazon Prime Video, Showtime, and Sling TV.)

Along with Netflix news, Facebook says it's launching a new Portal TV remote that includes quick-start buttons for Prime Video, Facebook Watch, and Netflix, so people can sit back and start streaming. The remote will start shipping Portal TV devices today and will be in stores in the next few weeks.

Netflix doesn't seem to be available on the standard portal yet, but Facebook also says it's adding Zoom to Portal Mini, Portal, and Portal Plus today to give users the ability to use it for video calls.

(Zoom previously announced support for Portal was on its way in August.) As normal, the Portal camera will train anyone who talks.

Zoom, along with Netflix, will also be available on rival computers, including the Amazon Echo Show and the Google Nest Hub Max. Google made Netflix available on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max in July, and Amazon says it's coming to the Echo Show soon. Now Facebook just needs to roll out Netflix to all of its Portal devices, and it's going to be on an equal footing with its rivals.
