Facebook makes finding Black-owned firms on its platform easier for users. The new feature forms part of the ongoing company's initiative to help Black communities, which was announced in June.
You admit that you have the option to self-identify the Facebook page for a Black-owned company. There is no badge or label displayed on Facebook to represent such companies. Rather, it allows a company to appear under the sub-section "black companies" in the tab "neighborhood business." The technology giant is also able to identify their listings for minority companies.
It's also easier to find Black-owned companies from other technology companies. Google launched a new badge in July for these companies. Yelp has also said it would add a new tool that makes searching for a Black-owned business easier for customers.
Facebook also announced its allocation to SMEs of $40 million for grants. Black firms with a maximum of 50 employees are entitled to apply for the grant and 10,000 Negro firms are chosen to award the funding.
In June, Facebook pledged to invest $200 million to support Black-owned companies and organisations. The remainder of the fund was invested in small, Black-owned companies, creators and non-profit groups that worked with Black-owned communities.
