Facebook will enable its employees from home to work through June 2021 with other companies like Google, which has announced plans to work on a remote footing through Business Insider until next summer as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the initial wave of home orders back in March, Facebook employed almost all of its approximately 48,000 people remotely, and previously reported having employees working remotely by the end of 2020.
Facebook spokesperson Nneka Norville told Business Insider: We allow our employees to volunteer from home until July 2021 based on guidance from healthcare and government experts, as well as the decisions made through our internalization of these issues. We also provide an additional $1,000 for our employees' home office requirements.
Facebook has one of the most drastic answers to the pandemic in COVID-19. The company will shift thousands of jobs to completely remote positions back in March. I think it's possible that we could get around half of the company working permanently remotely for the next five to ten years — perhaps closer to 10 than 5, but somewhere in that range, CEO Mark Zuckerberg told Verge at the time in an interview.
