Facebook has set up its own Supreme Court. Yes, it's a bit odd to hear, but it's true that Facebook has set up a supervisory board called the Supreme Court of Facebook. The Facebook Board will take decisions on the basis of freedom of speech and human rights. It will also give an immediate decision on the objectionable content.
The main function of the Facebook Oversight Board is to monitor the content of Facebook and Instagram and to make short-term decisions on the content in question. It is believed that Facebook has taken this decision to stop fake social media news and keep the atmosphere clean. Facebook had informed about the formation of this board in the year 2018 itself.
Only the Supervisory Board will determine which content will stay on Facebook and Instagram and which will not. Apart from this, the same board will determine which content on Facebook and Instagram should be deleted and which content should not be deleted.
The Board is composed of former editor of The Guardian newspaper Alan Rusiberger and former judge and VP of the European Court of Human Rights. In addition, the former Prime Minister of Denmark, Hale Thoring-Schmidt. The Oversight Board will also settle all disputes relating to Instagram and Facebook pages, profiles, groups and advertisements.
There are a total of 20 people on the board. The Board shall settle any case within a maximum of 90 days.
