In violation of county authorities' orders to remain locked, Tesla reopened its only US plant in Fremont , California.
"Tesla restarts production today against the laws of the county of Alameda. I 'm going to be on the line like all others. If someone is shot, that's just me, "created and CEO Elon Musk tweeted on a Monday by the electric vehicle manufacturer.
As part of the national steps to restrict the spread of coronavirus, the vehicle assembly plant in Fremont was closed on March 23. Nevertheless, some of its workers were called back and about 200 Model y and Model 3 vehicles were built.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said California factories could resume activity in parts of the state last week but that local governments would prolong shutdowns if they "feel it's too hard to reopen."
The county of Alameda said on Thursday that the existing "safety directives" in this area continue to prevail.
Yeah, California has approved, but an unlawfully ruling unelected county official. All other car companies in the United States are now eligible for resumption. Tesla alone was selected. This is extremely unpredictable, said Mr. Musk.
In Fremont and 20,000 in California, Tesla hires more than 10,000 people.
"We are responsible for caring after the health and safety of our workers ... many of whom depend on us for weeks because of the impacts of shelter orders," Tesla wrote on a blog.
Mr Musk, 48, defines shutdowns for coronavirus as "racist," and says that his company must determine whether cars in Fremont should be continued on the basis of their care.
He also threatened to shift operations to other countries and to end production in Fremont.
