Dubai 's latest legislation to help flying taxis, drone delivery take off with a network of mini airports

Dubai Sky Dome can see the skies humming with unmanned flying vehicles linking buildings across multiple landing pads and mini airports.
On Saturday, Dubai released a new law governing drone operations or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) taking a step closer to linking city landmarks and buildings aerially through the 'Sky Dome' scheme.

The legislation was released by His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Sky Dome project will see the Dubai sky bustling with unmanned flying objects that will link locations & buildings across landing pads & mini airports throughout the area.

The bill will pave the way for the issuance of instant government licenses & NOCs to public and private companies to use drones to provide similar services in the future, such as flying taxis and drone distribution systems.

It is the first step in developing an ecosystem for drone platforms and promotes the creation of an comprehensive process for licensing and granting licenses, permissions, NOCs, and drone-related inspection facilities, as well as a regulatory mechanism for reporting collisions and injuries.

An interconnected commercial network for drone transport systems, air freight and logistics facilities would also create an significant additional trade tributary for the Dubai region, officials said.

The legislation will allow Dubai to establish itself as a hub for the production of drones and smart transport. The demand for drone transport systems consists primarily of the delivery of goods; transport of passengers and freight; and surveying and photography.

Previously, Dubai developed the world's first self-driving taxi service. A video released back in 2017 shows an autonomous taxi taking off against the breathtaking background of the Dubai skyline, and it can be seen floating over the city before arriving safely at the same location.
