China's industrial internet is seeing fast growth with 5 G technology

The computer screen connected to the numerically operated machine tool displays the amplitude curve of the machine in real time. A total of 38 sensors mounted in the machine tool gather information in time to warn of malfunction.
This is the scene of an experimental base for Shanghai SmartState Technology Co Ltd's numerical control equipment and smart manufacturing technology.

A single sensor produces a few megabytes of data per second, Jiang Hucheng said with China Mobile, the project's communications provider. The 5G network, with its wide bandwidth and short latency, will meet the demand for high-frequency data, he added.

The "5G + industrial internet" applications can be seen all over the factory.

Automatic driven vehicles linked to the 5G network automatically pick up and transport materials and send goods for inspection.

Cameras linked to the 5G network gather workshop scenarios in real time and upload them to the security system.

With the boom in new infrastructure building, China has accelerated the introduction of the 5G-based industrial internet.

The industrial internet encompasses more vertical industries in China, said Yu Xiaohui, vice-president of the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology.

With the help of the industrial internet, knowledge such as the latest products and solutions can be exchanged between companies in a more timely manner, thus improving the conventional industrial development process and boosting industrial upgrades, said Tang Shui along with Shanghai SmartState Technology Co Ltd.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, more than 800 "5G + industrial internet" projects are under construction nationwide and are projected to reach 1,500 by the end of the year.

Data showed that the country's industrial internet registration has surpassed 4 billion.

The Committee for the Promotion of the Industrial Internet was formed last month to facilitate the broader, deeper and higher-level integration of industries and information technology at the China International Trade in Services Fair 2020 in Beijing.

Local authorities in China have also launched a set of policies aimed at promoting the growth of the industrial internet.

East China's Shandong Province recently issued a circular to promote the use of cloud technology in 11 categories of industrial equipment, including chemical plants, wind turbines, photovoltaic equipment and engineering equipment.

In July, Hunan announced the establishment in central China of the first "5G + industrial internet" pilot zone in the province to accelerate the promotion and implementation of industrial internet is advantageous for industrial clusters.

The 5G network has improved considerably in all areas of efficiency and is the basis for the introduction of the commercial internet, said Xiang Ligang, a communications expert.
