China reports spy cases with Huawei CFO against Canadians

(Reuters) China announced Monday that spy cases are unrelated to an pending extradition case against Huawei's senior management, Meng Wanzhou, against two Canadian citizens in that country and called for the release of Meng.
 
Speaker Zhao Lijian made the remarks during a regular briefing in the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
 
When asked to stop what he referred to as the 'arbitrary detention' of the arresting Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor in 2018 on charges of state safety, he said that China does not have arbitrary detention. Zhao was told that he was detained in 2018 on charges of government safety.
