Blurry Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Leak Signs on camera upgrades and gold model

Online has appeared a leaked and highly blurred picture of what appears to be Samsung's Galaxy Fold 2. Phone leaker Ice Universe has released two images of the unit, revealing that the Galaxy Fold 's successor is likely to arrive in a gold model and with some camera upgrades. It's not clear precisely what the camera setup consists of at the back, but reports have indicated that the Galaxy Fold 2 would implement the same camera as the Galaxy S20 Plus — including a 64-megapixel telephoto camera.

The leaked image also shows the front of the Galaxy Fold 2 cover panel, but it does not include any information as to whether this has been updated. The original Samsung Fold had a 4.6-inch front panel, with comically wide bezels. The main 7.3-inch monitor of the Fold has folded out, and on the Galaxy Fold 2 there are ongoing reports this could be increased to 7.7 inches or 8 inches.

However, the form factor for the general Galaxy Fold 2 looks identical to the original. Samsung's ill-fated Galaxy Fold suffered from a range of issues surrounding reliability, resulting in a delayed launch. Broken review devices forced Samsung to reconsider its launch of the Galaxy Fold, but it still found that even the updated version was fragile.

Separate reports say that the Galaxy Fold 2 will arrive, with less capacity, at a cheaper price point. The original model began at $1,980, so any cost savings could help drive the market toward dual-screen and foldable devices.

We will find out more about Samsung's Galaxy Fold 2 at the company's August 5th press launch. Samsung is expected to introduce its latest Galaxy Note 20 smartphone range, Galaxy Buds Live, Tab S7 laptop, Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatch and Samsung's foldable Z Flip 5G edition.
