TikTok is launching a pop-up today that will alert users if they are about to post anything that is "inappropriate or unkind." The latest function is one of two that have been revealed to help the service "promote kindness." The other option is to Filter All Comments so that they appear only after they have been individually accepted.

If TikTok believes a comment will breach its community guidelines, the new unkind alert appears. Would you like to reconsider publishing this? says the narrator. Before prompting users to "Edit" it or "Post anyway," the pop-up box reads.

Some social media platforms have experimented with prompts like these to reduce bullying and abuse. Similar prompts were first seen on Instagram in 2019, and Twitter revealed it was testing them last year. They've also been seen on Facebook. Instagram later stated that the prompt's results were "promising," and that these types of nudges can encourage people to reconsider their words when given a chance.

Users will enable the new Filter All Comments feature in the Comments filters menu, which already allows them to filter spam and offensive comments, as well as filter based on relevant keywords. Creators must manually authorize individual comments until they appear underneath their videos after they have been activated.

TikTok also revealed today that it is working with the Cyberbullying Research Center to collaborate on more anti-bullying programs as part of today's announcement.
