Apple's iCloud login and activation problem appears fixed about 36 hours later.

For all of you who have a new Apple computer for Christmas, congratulations! But you may have had some trouble setting up and logging in to iCloud along with other Apple users. First reported by Apple Insider, as of Saturday morning, Apple's device status page shows "some users affected" by a problem that started about 4:45 AM ET on December 25th.

Almost 36 hours later, the problem seems to be over. The status report at 4:35PM ET Saturday will show the problem as "resolved."

The problem seemed to involve several computers. The device status report did not display any problems with any other areas of the iCloud or other Apple systems.

Apple Support tweeted Friday afternoon that it was aware of the problem and that it was "experiencing a high capacity at this time that is affecting your ability to set up iCloud, please try back in a few hours." The post was addressed to a user attempting to set up their mother's new iPad and HomePod mini.

It's still not known how severe the issue was, and on Saturday, Apple did not respond immediately to The Verge's request for feedback.
