Apple will release MacOS Major Sur on November 12.

Apple says MacOS 11.0, called Big Sur, will be launched on November 12. The company first unveiled the new OS at its developer conference in June and launched it as a public beta in August. This is the first MacOS to support Apple's new M1 laptop processor. When you download a new, free update, you can most likely instantly find interface and esthetic improvements, many of which are taken from iOS.

For one thing, Big Sur comes with a customizable control center where you can change the light, do not interrupt, and other settings of your choosing. It also provides a new notification center that can hold all of your messages and widgets (also redesigned and accessible in the App Store) in one panel, sort the most recent updates and party related notifications together. Both interfaces are transparent, much like an iOS interface. Other improvements include higher menu bars, text color changes depending on the desktop background, and more transparent screens.

Some applications, such as Mail and Images, also get interface updates, and a new version of Maps for Mac is being shipped along with the OS. This update includes personalized guides, 360-degree location views, bicycle and electric-vehicle directions (which you can send straight to your iPhone), live updates to shared ETAs, congestion zones, and indoor maps.

In addition to interface updates, Big Sur provides privacy-focused tools, such as a Safari update called Privacy Report that details the browser's cross-site trackers that have been disabled for the past 30 days, as well as a password-monitoring app that Safari makes you upgrade to safe passwords if it suspects that some of your saved passwords have been used in a data breach. The Big Sur App Store will now now provide the kinds of data applications that may be gathered and whether the data is exchanged with third parties for monitoring.

Finally, Apple also claims the Macs' displays will turn on automatically when they're opened, close to how the iPhone lights up when it's picked up.

There's a lot more to the change you can learn about here and experience yourself on November 12th.
