Apple is changing the way it delivers devices to consumers: instead of delivering all its hardware goods directly from China or local warehouses, the company is now using its Apple Stores network as a de-facto distribution hub, shipping products directly from stores to get customers quicker.
The move would take advantage of Apple 's nearly 300 stores in the US and Canada to speed up local distribution to customers within 100 miles of the store. Apparently, the company has already begun using a new method with some stores earlier this year, but the larger rollout is coming only ahead of Apple 's upcoming iPhone launch next week.
The change is primarily an internal one, so consumers would not be able to select the store from which their devices are delivered. But using retail stores to promote faster delivery to consumers could help get new iPhones in people's hands that much faster, at a time when those stores are experiencing much less in-person traffic as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
