Antitrust hearing rescheduled to Wednesday with CEOs of Facebook , Amazon, Google and Apple

A congressional hearing with Facebook , Google, Amazon, and Apple chief executives on Wednesday was rescheduled for midday Eastern Time. The hearing was originally scheduled for Monday and was bumped back a few days to allow Congress members to pay respects to the late Rep. John Lewis, who died July 17. Next week Lewis will be lying in detention at US Capitol.

The meeting of the House Judiciary Committee with Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai will concentrate on the numerous antitrust concerns that are being raised by each CEO's group. It's part of a year-long study into the anti-competitive conduct of the tech industry.

The hearing will be held remotely to adhere to the social distancing guidelines for coronavirus. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is not expected to give testimony from some Republicans on the committee, despite a push late last week.

The House Judiciary Antitrust subcommittee is investigating various alleged abuses by each of the four companies: Google's control of its advertising market, WhatsApp and Instagram acquisitions by Facebook, Apple's App Store policies, and third-party seller treatment by Amazon.

Since last June, the Subcommittee has been investigating the dominance of a small number of digital platforms and the adequacy of existing antitrust and enforcement legislation, Jerrold Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and David Cicilline, Chairman of the Antitrust Subcommittee, said in a statement Saturday. Because of the central role that these corporations play in American people's lives, it 's critical that their CEOs are coming in. As we said from the beginning, their testimony is vital for us to complete this investigation.'

The committee is expected to produce a full investigation report either later this summer or early in the autumn.

Wednesday’s hearing will stream live here.
