The company today announced that Amazon Prime Video is developing user profiles for families and friends who share Prime accounts.
Up to six user profiles can be accessed in each account. One profile is default, with five other profiles allowed for the primary account. These can be regular accounts or accounts for children. The child's account will restrict what content is displayed, similar to how other child's accounts work with Netflix and HBO Max streaming services. You can stream up to 3 videos on one account with the same Amazon, and only two devices can stream the same video simultaneously.
Amazon's wallet sharing tool connects profiles. The function allows customers to share their methods of payment with another household-built Amazon account. Amazon Prime Video is automatically creating linked accounts from the default profile to other accounts in the household. (There is more information here).
Like customized profiles on other streaming services, Amazon user profiles are tailored to the interests of each individual. Each profile will therefore have separate recommendations, season progress and an Amazon profile-based watch list.
It doesn't seem that Prime Video customers can adapt the look of their profile icons with images from shows and films unlike Netflix and Disney Plus.
It's important to note that customers can deactivate the feature on the "manage your profiles" page if they don't want to share profiles. However, after profile sharing is disabled, customers can't reactivate the feature. Be sure that before you do so, you will disable it.
With the Android and iOS versions of the Prime Video App customers will be able to create and manage profiles, through the website, 10th-generation or later, via the Prime Video application for Fire TV and "select living room devices such as Amazon's PlayStation 4," upon launch. The feature is being implemented globally but in phases so that the user profile options are not immediately visualized by all customers.
