After all, Amazon won't stream any New York Yankee games this season

With the season for Major League Baseball shortened to just 60 games this year, this season, Bloomberg reported, Amazon will not broadcast any New York Yankees games.

Amazon was expected to stream 21 Yankees games with some high-profile games on the list starting on April 17, including three against the Boston Red Sox. Amazon Prime members would have been able to stream all 21 games in New York State, northeast Pennsylvania, Connecticut and central New Jersey.

But YES Network of the Yankees has chosen to keep those games for their channel, and MLB rules limit streaming games shown on regional sports networks such as YES.

Because of the unique circumstances surrounding this season, YES Network will television all New York Yankees games not airing on national networks, Amazon told Bloomberg in a statement. At the end of this season we will be reviewing our plans.

Last August, Amazon became YES part-owner after Disney sold its 80 per cent share. Several parties split the deal, including the Yankees, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Amazon, and RedBird Capital,.

Amazon's sports streaming mix should have been extended to the Yankees games; it also broadcasts Thursday Night Football, and has signed agreements to screen Premier League matches in the UK and UEFA Champions League tournament matches in Germany.

In the MLB season opener on Thursday, the Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals 4-1, in a game that ESPN said drew 4 million viewers.
