8 GB of RAM now have 8 GB of Raspberry Pi

With a new computer for 75 bucks, The Raspberry Pi Foundation has doubled the maximum amount of RAM that is available for the Raspberry Pi 4 to 8 GB. The foundation will also release a new 64-bit version of the operating system early in beta to take advantage of the RAM boost. In other respects, the new Raspberry Pi 4 is identical to the device announced last June, meaning it has the same ARM-based CPU, HDMI, USB 3 ports and Ethernet ports.

8 GB is a great deal of RAM, considering the size and price of the Raspberry Pi. This year is the same as other flagships and plenty for an entry-level Mac.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation claims extra memory can be useful when compiling massive pieces of software or running heavy application workloads. We are certain that the community will not take long to make many useful applications.

The foundation is also releasing a 64-bit version of its Early Beta Raspbian operating system, renamed Raspberry Pi OS, which is now run by a 32-bit kernel, which means that it can not use 8 GB of RAM in full. If you would like not to run beta applications, other 64-bit OSs like Ubuntu and Gentoo are available.

In addition to the new 8 GB model, the Raspberry Pi 4 is available for $55 and $35, with 4 GB and 2 GB of RAM.
