3 Pakistani firms were chosen out of 597 applicants from 44 countries to get a total award of Rs.146 million.

Out of 597 applications submitted from 44 countries, the GSMA Innovation Fund for Mobile Internet Adoption and Digital Inclusion has recognized three Pakistani firms as winners.
 
Vceela, Knowledge Platform, and Orenda Pakistan, the winning Pakistani firms, will get a combined award of £668,000, or Rs. 146 million.
 
Digital innovations are going to alter the way people live and work in Pakistan, said GSMA Head of Asia Pacific Julian Gorman, speaking remotely at the event.
 
“As we saw in the GSMA 2020 Digital Societies Report, which tracks the progress of 11 focus countries in Asia Pacific, Pakistan is advancing its societal, economic and digital ambition, as outlined in Digital Pakistan Vision,” Mr Gorman said.

“By 2023, the economic contribution of the mobile industry in Pakistan is expected to reach $24 billion, accounting for 6.6 percent of GDP.”, he predicted.

Syed Aminul Haq, the Federal Minister for Information Technology, spoke at the event and praised the work of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) to change Pakistani telecommunications.
